Conference on Human Trafficking and Child Abduction Held

The Preventing Abuse Conference on Human Trafficking and Child Abduction was hosted by the Cedars Cultural and Educational Foundation at the Sheraton Universal Hotel on November 13th, 2006.

United States Department of State Senior Advisor of Trafficking, Laura J. Lederer, made a powerful presentation. Mary Shuttleworth, President of the International Foundation for Human Rights presented Lederer with a copy of the Youth for Human Rights “30 Rights. 30 Ads.” video depicting the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also present were the Los Angeles Commissioner on the Status of Women, Anne Dunn, and Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition Founder, Marissa Ugarte.

Other presenters at the conference included Mr. J. Stephen Tidwell, Vice President Federal Bureau of Investigation; Original Movies, Lifetime Entertainment Services, Arturo Interian; and National Consultant for Trafficking Survivor Services, Salvation Army, Michael A. Smith.

The conference, organized by Tony Nassif, raised awareness on the multibillion dollar illegal and inhuman trafficking of children, women and men both intranationally and internationally. Representatives from governmental, religious, community and youth groups rallied together to put an end to this heinous crime.
